SharePoint Information Architecture
There are many courses/classes that claim to “Teach Information Architecture and SharePoint” however these are full of platitudes and usually is delivered in a 1 day and tries to cover complex topics and end up being a complete waste of time. Recently some readers on my blog commented and asked me on why it’s hard to implement an information architecture with SharePoint. The reality is if you listen to someone talking and putting IA into a box then you are pretty much on the wrong track. Which is what most classes try to do and end up having more confused participants at the end.
I’ve always looked at SharePoint IA in a complete different view. And this is a common shared view with some of my good friends in the community. In particular Paul Culmsee from Cleverworkarounds/Seven Sigma who has developed a very unique approach to “how do I solve this SharePoint Information architecture problem?” – My suggestion is that if your team is looking to understand how to gain the best knowledge is to contact Paul via his SPGOV + IA web site and maybe attend one of his upcoming classes. It will be one of the best investments you’ll make if you are starting on a SharePoint project.
